Description

The Amazing Spider-Man #39 (Marvel, 1966) CGC NM/MT 9.8 Off-white to white pages. One of the very best books in this superb collection, this might be the most hotly contested lot of the bunch given its status as the only 9.8 as of this writing. It's been three years since we'd even seen a 9.4 copy of the book, and while we still rhapsodize about the beautiful Twin Cities copy, that one was slapped with a mere 9.0 by the toughies at CGC. This issue marked the first issue of John Romita Sr.'s run as artist, and 45 years later he remains the artist most associated with the character in the minds of many. His first cover was certainly one of the most striking of his run, and by the way, this was the issue in which the Green Goblin's identity is revealed as Norman Osborn. Overstreet 2011 NM- 9.2 value = $785. CGC census 8/11: 3 in 9.8, none higher. From the Edward M. Sarley Collection.
